Program Overview

Callaway Golf in Schools is a program developed by the Golf Association of Ontario as a true grassroots initiative brought to schools through the support of Callaway Golf Canada. This program was designed with fun and safety in mind to give children an opportunity to experience and learn a game that helps build character and promotes life-long activity.

The Callaway Golf in Schools program consists of three steps with specific curriculum for each grade division.

Tee 1 (JK-3)

Tee 2 (gr. 4-6)

Tee 3 (gr. 7-8)

It is our goal to ensure that all elementary school students have a positive golf course experience before they reach high school.  The program aims to add 100 new schools and make lasting impressions on 15,000 students each year.

The program will utilize Canadian PGA Golf Professionals to deliver the Mr. Knickers & Friends presentation, the teacher training for each step of the program and to host the final step; Green Grass Field Trips.

The ultimate goal of the Callaway Golf in Schools program is to help foster strong communities through the inherent values and life-skills which form the core of golf and this program. We want kids to lead a life well lived!

We invite you to explore our website and get a full comprehension of what the entire program is all about.  As it continues to develop, check for regular updates and get more information on the program.  Should you wish to contact us regarding program material, inquiries or other information, please feel free to do so at any time.

Registration & TwinSchool

In the registration form each school must identify & sign up with another local school (does not have to be JK-8) each school sends in their own registration form.

The purpose of the twin school is to be able to share the golf equipment provided as part of the program.  The Golf in Schools program will come to each school separately for the Mr. Knickers & Friends presentation (JK-3), and the golf equipment will be shipped to your school for you to share.

Once registration is received we will begin to book a date for your Mr. Knickers & Friends presentation, Teacher training will be held on a PA Day at each school board.  To ensure your school receives the in-school presentation and teacher training within the school year, registration should be submitted by November of each school year.

Mr. Knickers and Friends Presentation

Mr. Knickers and Friends is a unique interactive presentation focused on Primary grades as a first exposure to golf. Our two dynamic characters, 'Mr. Knickers' and 'Sticky Dave' bring an old game back to life with colour and energy.

Presentation Outline

The Mr. Knickers & Friends presentation comes to your school for a half day and acts as the phys-ed curriculum.

Classes JK to 3 are introduced to “Mr. Knickers”, “Sticky Dave” and Snag golf equipment.  Students begin by learning about the basic terms through visual aids and discussion, then warm up for activities with music and dance.  Classes are then put into groups and learn the basics of putting and full swing.

With the use of Snag equipment, (tennis balls & oversized plastic clubs) students learn the fun side of the game of golf with emphasis on safety & sportsmanship.

As students take turns putting and driving, their classmates cheer them on and shake hands after each shot.  The goal of this stage is not to focus on grip and stance, rather enjoying the game and trying their best.

Once groups have rotated and each student has had an opportunity to drive and putt, they prepare for the entrance of Sticky Dave to conclude the session with fun and entertainment.  At the end of each session students are presented with some fun items to take home with them.

Instructors

The program is taught by trained CPGA Professionals who are certified golf instructors and coaches.

Equipment and Material

The Mr. Knickers & Friends team provides all equipment and material for the presentation. The equipment is Snag Golf which uses tennis balls & oversized plastic clubs to make this presentation fun, safe and memorable!  This is the same equipment that your teachers will be trained with and your school will receive as part of the program fee.
